After our busy first day of sight seeing we headed to the Meguro River for a lantern/food festival. The lanterns on the water looked stunning, especially surrounded by cherry blossoms. Don't let these photos fool you, the crowds were intense. I had to lift my camera above peoples head to get a good shot. It started to rain a little as we wandered the street, looking at the food vendors. As the sky grew dark, the rain began to pour and everyone got out their umbrellas...everyone except us it seemed, we didn't have an umbrella. Then a kind looking older woman approached me and spoke some words in Japanese whilst handing me her umbrella. I tried to decline and said she should keep it, however Clinton responded in Japanese and the woman left. I was about to scold Clinton for letting the woman give me her umbrella when he explained that she'd told him she lived right there and was about to go inside and thought we could use her umbrella. Just another example of how friendly and helpful Japanese people are. It took us a while to hail a taxi in the pouring rain and without that umbrella we both would have been saturated.

We ate dinner at our hotel and the food was incredible. There was a window into the kitchen and watching the chefs cook was an experience in itself. They were so precise and organised (and quiet compared to many restaurant kitchens).
These iPhone photos don't really do the food justice, the presentation was outstanding and these desserts were delicious.
I look exhausted here because thats the end of day one, sightseeing around Tokyo. We certainly made the most of every second!
