Spear Fishing Success

A couple of Saturday's ago Clinton, Nathan and Cody took the boat to go spear fishing (Durand was meant to go too but unfortunately had gastro). Clinton has gone spear fishing a few times here but each time he's gone no one has speared anything. Finally the drought is over! Nathan caught the first coral trout and then Clinton caught the second. There is a restriction to 2 coral trout per boat so that was all they were able to spear. They went pretty far out so it took a while to drive the boat back - on the way they saw more whales. The whales were fully breaching out of the water and the boys said they could hear the whale song noises under the water. Clinton loved it!

Clinton got home from spear fishing at about 1pm then he left for a service project at 2pm. I got a pedicure at 3.30pm and did some food shopping and then Amy came to babysit for us at 7pm so we could go to the REAF festival where the band Birds of Tokyo were playing (for free). It was really nice of Amy to babysit for us - especially since it was her anniversary that day!! We had a lovely time at the concert and were both impressed by another extremely well organised, free event in Karratha. Clinton said after a day like that in Karratha he can see why people don't ever want to leave....hmmm....

 



Harrison Turns Seven

It was Harrison's 7th birthday on Thursday - it's still hard to believe that we now have a 7 year old...where have the years gone?
Harrison wanted a 'Lego' theme for his birthday cake so two nights before his birthday I had a go at moulding Lego blocks from fondant, using a silicon mould. I have never used fondant before - so this was a bit of a learning curve. Clinton cleverly cut out Harry's name from fondant using a scalpel. Then on Wednesday I baked two cakes, then thought they were too flat and tried again by doubling the mixture in both cakes. I wanted some height for the square block. Then I iced the two cakes together using butter cream icing. Clinton rolled out the green fondant and put it over the icing (harder than it looks!). Here are some photos of the cake...

 

On Thursday morning Harrison woke up at 4am...we suspect he didn't go back to sleep but he wasn't allowed to open his presents until 6am. He was pretty excited when he saw all the presents on the dining table.

Sienna wanted to give Harry her gift first...but then she insisted on opening it too!

 She gave him a pilot teddy bear (the purchase of which supports the Royal Flying Doctors service).

 Harry then opened Grammie and Papa's gift...he was very excited and has built it already! They also gave Harry lots of books and a dragon Lego kit too. Very spoilt!

 A fantastic gift from the Mamouney's...Harrison loves the Harry Potter movies.

 Aunty Darnae and Uncle Trent got Harry a microscope...he loves it!!

 Aunty Lisa got Harrison the Secret Seven series of books and a wooden rocket to paint and a mini sketching kit. We have already started the Secret Seven, great gift!!

 We also got him new board shorts and a new rashie, a music stand and some Tim Tam's! He also got more Lego from Aunty Kate and Aunty Tam - but he'd opened their presents earlier. Grandma and Papa are going to fly Harrison to Perth on his own for a little holiday with them - probably just after Christmas...he can't wait! Then I made Harrison some pancakes for breakfast.

While Harrison was at school, I made some cupcakes for his class. I was going to make them a bit fancier but I ran out of time! Harrison was happy with them.

After school Harrison tested out his new microscope, started some Lego and used his bow and arrows...

As Harrison had a big birthday party last year, we decided we would just have a family party this year. Harry wanted his best friend Michael to come - so we invited the entire Pilkington family and had a BBQ dinner at Bayton West park. I took a ton of photos (of course) but when I got home I realised the ISO was set wrong and most of my photos were noisy! I've still managed to put quite a few on here though!!

Cake time!

 And was very unimpressed to have a mouthful of fondant! It was pretty funny.

 It started to get cold so Emily wore Harrison's jumper. She looked so cute wondering around in an oversized hoodie!

Harrison said he had a great day. We are so proud of this big, grown up 7 year old!! Happy birthday Harry boy, we love you! xx  

Little Athletics Medal

This photo should have been included in my last post...Harrison with his little athletics medal and certificate. The certificate has a record of all Harrison's personal best achievements for each event. He was so excited to get his first ever medal!

 

 



Inter School Carnival

Harrison was asked to be in the Tambrey Primary School inter school team - competing against all the other primary schools in Karratha and in Dampier and Wickham. There were two year one boys and two year one girls in the team. Both the girls and Harrison happened to be from the same class (there are a few year one classes in the school). That morning all the children competing were given a special Tambrey sport tee-shirt to wear on the day and were then taken to the inter school carnival on a bus. Sienna, Alissa and I went to Millar's Well oval to watch, luckily there was a playground so Sienna happily played on the equipment the whole time. The year one's were only competing in the 50 meter sprint and no other events so once Harrison finished I was able to take him home (he was so excited to get half a day off!).

 

As Harrison started his race I realised he wasn't going to take his hat off! I was stressing the whole time that it would fall off or blow in his face during the race. Luckily it stayed on his head!!

 It was a fast race and all the boys stayed together in a pretty tight pack.

 At the end I couldn't tell if Harrison had come third or fourth - turned out he'd come fourth (I was relieved he got a ribbon because he would have been disappointed if he hadn't).

 He was happy to get a ribbon but a little bit upset that he hadn't come first. I told  him that he should be proud because he'd run as fast as he could and tried his very best! Tambrey ended up winning the whole carnival too!

 That same day, Harrison had his last night of Little Athletics for the year. I love how Clinton is able to help Harrison with his technique.

 

Harry has really improved over the season and grown in confidence so we'll definitely be doing Little Athletics again next year! 

Alissa and Sienna move from event to event and watch Harrison. Sienna made some friends with the younger siblings of the other kids, she had a blast running around with them on the oval. Alissa happily sitting in her pram...such a sweet face!
