One Saturday morning we decided to go to the beach, we left early because it was already 35 degrees at 9am. We drove to Point Samson but the water looked a little bit rough so I suggested we drive to Cossack and check out Settlers Beach, as we'd never been there. We set up our little beach shelter and sat back in our deck chairs...
....the kids started digging in the sand...
....then we realised that the sand near the water was moving...it was covered in tiny crabs!
It was hard to get a picture that showed just how many crabs there were! Thousands of them! They would move in a pack and we could literally herd them. They were terrified by us and would run in a pack away from us. The noise of them running was incredible and hard to describe.
Alissa loved them and chased the crabs everywhere, whereas, Sienna was unimpressed and went back to the beach shelter.
After all the excitement of finding the crabs we went for a family swim in the (warm) water and built some more sand castles. It was a fun morning...we love all the little surprises we find in the Pilbara...apart from snakes slithering across my veranda - that was one surprise I could have done without!
