As the first weekend in August approaches, the whole of Karratha starts to get increasingly excited about the annual FeNaClNG Festival. I didn't understand the hype about a country show until we attended our first festival. Now our family looks forward to the festival as much as everyone else in town! Our kids did jobs to save up for the festival again this year. Harrison put the most effort in and had plenty of spending money. The girls had enough to go on a couple of rides and buy a show bag (their biggest drawcard).
Penny and Mick had to fly home because of work commitments and we encouraged them to leave the girls with us for the weekend. Our kids couldn't wait to take them to our little festival, I on the other hand was a bit worried it wouldn't measure up to a 'Royal Show' equivalent. However, the girls had a great time that day with our kids and with India and Reeve and even said it was better than Disneyland (hear that everyone...who needs Disneyland when you can go to Karratha's FeNaClNG Festival?!).
Alissa, enjoying the attention of Ling and Jordy
Harrison always offers to push my pram for me, he's a very proud big brother!
Notice the matching tie-dyed teeshirts - the kids dyed some shirts together at Georgia's house (on a Tuesday) so of course we nicknamed it 'Tie-Dye Tuesday.'
We got a friend to book us in early for the umbrella painting and headed straight there once we arrived. Here are the kids all ready in their painting smocks.
Painting umbrellas is a serious business...
Zara...as always, patiently watching from the pram.
Alissa's finished product
Sienna's umbrella
Love this girl
and this one too...
Sienna and Alissa were desperate to spend their money on show bags so we headed straight to a show bag stand and they picked out a bag each. Jordy and ling bought a bag too and then Harry and Jordyn took Alissa on the mini ferris wheel.
Some cool kites
Jordyn, Jayme and Harry braved these bad boys in the heat! I personally could think of nothing worse than being put into a hot, plastic ball in 30+ degree weather and being rolled around. The kids on the other hand loved it!
Sienna being a kind sister and going on the car ride with Alissa (and secretly enjoying herself!).
Everyone was starting to get hot after lunch, making it the perfect time for giant, refillable slushes (of course).
Sienna won another giant, stuffed toy this year (JOY).
F A I R Y F L O S S
Ling and Jordy were so attentive to Zara, always taking to her, feeding her and holding her. You can see why I'm a fan of these girls!
Love the facial expressions on the dodgem cars...
Ouch...Ling bumped her head!
Reeve in the background...this photo is priceless.
Spending the last of their money on the ducks!
Best day ever for these friends...we hope Jordy and Ling join us next year! We sadly had to say goodbye to the girls the following morning. We wish they didn't live so far away and we're really grateful they visited us again.
