Growing Watermelons

When Clinton's Dad was here last, he planted some watermelon seeds in our garden - then Clinton and Harrison added some more. I was dubious about the possibility that watermelons would grow properly in our dry, sandy soil. However, four or so months later we have a nice crop of large and healthy watermelons. We had to call Dad and ask how we would know when the watermelons were ready to be harvested. Apparently the vine connected to the top of the watermelon should be starting to get loose and that's how you know they are ready to be picked.

We weren't sure what to expect when we cut the first one open, but it was a beautiful colour and so juicy!

I think that face means...mmmm delicious!
Later, Harrison pick this giant watermelon with his friend Michael - it was so heavy it took two of them to carry it!
