On the 11th of March, Bindi and I arrived in Florence and were greeted at the airport by Tam! It was a very pleasant surprise after a long journey - we thought we'd have to catch a taxi and just see her at the apartment. Bindi had flown from Sydney and I had flown from Perth, we met up in Abu Dhabi and flew together to Rome and then on to Florence. It was so nice flying those last legs together and arriving together.
The reason for this trip to Florence was because Tamara was having stem cell replacement therapy for her MS. The treatment goes for three months and she is currently still in hospital now finishing the process. Stem cell replacement involves removing Tam's stem cells, giving her two rounds of intensive chemotherapy and then replacing her stem cells and putting her on more medication/transfusions to get her white blood cell count up. This type of MS treatment is still in trial phase in Australia so Tamara looked overseas to have the treatment done.

This mean't Tamara was out of hospital for the majority of the time we were there and we were able to spend lots of time together. The day after we arrived we took a train to Siena (only an hour outside of Florence).

Once we arrived we took two wrong buses in search of the old city in Siena...luckily a student helped us out but we did have to walk a lot further than we had anticipated. Not easy for Tamara with numb/painful legs!
